Katana is Sammy’s eldest son, and we couldn’t be prouder of the remarkable journey he’s taken — from finishing top of his primary school class, to scoring the highest marks out of over 10,000 students in the Watamu district, earning himself a coveted spot at a secondary school in Voi.
From there, he progressed to an international university in Nairobi, where he has continued to excel.
Katana currently works as an accountant at the Crab Shack in Watamu — a community-focused enterprise — and is deeply committed to environmental conservation, particularly the health of our oceans and mangroves.
In celebration of his graduation, a group of generous friends and family (the very same team who gifted him his first bicycle at age 9!) have come together to buy him a motorbike — a fitting gift for a young man on the move.
Katana also coordinates the volunteer programme for us in Watamu, and we are so excited to see where life takes him next.
Congratulations, Katana — we are endlessly proud of you!

An amazing achievement Katana. Congratulations and have a wonderful Nairobi graduation with your sisters. Huge recognition has to go to Jax and Bushbells who have made his academic career and successes a reality.
