Teacher Training for Bluebells Staff

Sam is one wonderful lady. Her energy and enthusiasm and generosity of spirit is extraordinary and we're so lucky at Bushbells to have met her. She kindly organised for some of our teachers from Bluebells School to go along to Kivukoni School in Kilifi, for a teacher training day at the end of September.

The workshop was on 'Creative Numeracy in Early Years' and focused on looking creative ways to encourage young children to explore mathematical concepts through free play, numeracy learning areas and using the natural environment. They focused a lot on thinking broadly about resources and how they can be adapted and used across learning areas for different subjects to still promote mathematical awareness and development.

Sections included low cost materials to be used, loose parts, natural resources, messy maths and playdough!! How to use the natural world around them in an imaginative way was key for our staff to learn, as they work with scant resources.  They learnt how learning can still be fun and creative - and outside of the classroom too! The teachers were given lots of new ideas for using playdough, cup cakes, birthday candles and numbers to promote counting and number value in an engaging and fun way.

Our huge thanks to Lucy and Kivukoni School for hosting this teacher training session, and credit and more thanks to Sian for being the teacher trainer. And thank you Sam, for organising all this - Angels all ! xx

  • Wonderful to start the relationship between Kivukoni and Bushbells. Fingers crossed for many more activities together in the future.
